The Property

RECENTLY OFFERED FOR $2.49 MILLION. NOW SELLING AT OR ABOVE ONLY $1 MILLION! Situated on a lush, wooded lot that borders historic Sope Creek and adjoins the Chattahoochee National Park and Forest, this one-of-a-kind Property is serene, yet only 25 minutes from the heart of Atlanta. Built in the style of famed residences across Scotland and England (including the home of Sir Walter Scott), this exceptional estate sits on more than an acre at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in coveted East Cobb – named Georgia’s Best Place to Live by Money Magazine – in the affluent Atlanta suburb of Marietta. The main living area spans nearly 8,000 sf, and finished lower levels add an additional 3,500 sf, all of which are appointed in a handsome, traditional style. Custom touches include a 1,500 bottle wine cellar, 25-foot fireplace mantle, Honduran Mahogany doors hand-carved by English masters, and antique elements recovered from European castles and manor homes.

In addition to the unparalleled finishes, the home is spacious and comfortable, with many modern touches including a kitchen outfitted with professional grade Viking and Sub-Zero appliances. A 5-car garage is accessible via covered breezeway and, in addition to space for an impressive automobile collection, hosts a separate apartment with its own full bed and bath, living area and laundry facilities, suitable for use as caretaker or guest quarters.

The Location

MARIETTA, GA. The seat of Cobb County, Marietta has a population of over 60,000, making it one of Atlanta’s largest suburbs. Named for Mary Cobb, wife of U.S. Senator Thomas Willis Cobb (who lent his surname to the county itself), Marietta was incorporated as a village in 1834 and as a city in 1852. Fire destroyed Marietta three times during the 1850s and again in 1864, when the Union army set it ablaze as the first strike in Sherman’s famed March to the Sea; the Civil War ended five months thereafter.

The residents of Marietta are largely commuters working in nearby Atlanta, but Dobbins Air Reserve Base and a Lockheed Martin manufacturing plant provide local jobs; in addition, the widely acclaimed Cobb County School District (CCSD) employs over 13,000 people. The second-largest school system in Georgia, the CCSD was among the first in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to earn a district-wide accreditation. In addition to the lauded educational system, residents in Cobb County enjoy one of the lowest property tax rates in the state – nearly half the rate of nearby Fulton County.

The Community

EAST COBB, GA. An unincorporated community, East Cobb is home to nearly 180,000 people. Originally a collection of small neighborhoods established in the area’s post-Cherokee history, the area was developed as a suburb of Atlanta beginning in the 1960s, and has become one of the city’s most affluent locales. Residents have excellent shopping and dining options in open-air shopping centers such as Merchant’s Walk, The Avenue East Cobb and Paper Mill Village. Atlanta is only 25 minutes away, but East Cobb residents need not travel for culture or entertainment.

In addition to its cosmopolitan amenities, East Cobb offers some of the finest outdoor recreation in Georgia due to its location near the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. With over 867,000 acres stretching across 26 counties, the national forest provides nearly unlimited hiking, fly fishing and camping in addition to miles of off-road vehicle trails and lakes suitable for both motorized and non-motorized water sports. The area has been called home by many notable people, including Missy Elliot, Travis Tritt, Newt Gingrich, Alton Brown, and Ty Pennington.
