Platinum Luxury Auctions and cooperating listing brokerage USVI Sotheby’s International Realty are excited to announce the pending sale of Villa Whydah, a pirate-themed estate sitting upon four-acres on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Boasting more that 15,000 interior square feet of living space spanning seven total structures, Villa Whydah is amongst the finest Caribbean properties to be recently offered for sale.
During the auction- marketing campaign, the estate received more than 105,000 website hits, 13,577 views of its digital auction brochure, and 141 bona fide buyer inquiries. That tremendous interest was distilled to 4 registered bidders, who participated in a “virtualized” auction held via a live audio/video feed.
The winning bidder, a businessman from the northeast U.S., surprisingly purchased the property site-unseen, an extreme rarity in the luxury real estate industry. While the sale price of the property will not be formally released until closing, both Platinum and USVI Sotheby’s International Realty have confirmed that the price is “well in excess” of St. Thomas’s previous residential sales record of approximately $6 million. The transaction is scheduled to close in early January, 2015.
