DELRAY BEACH, FL. Located on the eastern coast of Florida in Palm Beach County, the city of Delray Beach was first settled in 1876 but truly began to prosper during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. Throughout the 30s and 40s a seasonal “Artists and Writers” colony was established and attracted talent such as H. T. Webster and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Today, downtown Delray maintains a quaint and quirky air that recalls its roots with art galleries, accommodations, restaurants and shopping lining its streets.
Two miles of beautiful public beachfront are the main attraction, however, and this award-winning resort town is proud to count several top distinctions from prestigious publications including “Best Restored Beach” and “Best Weekend Destination.” In addition, it has been featured in both 2015 and 2016 as one of Florida’s Top Ten Beaches by the Travel Channel and in 2015 was named as one of the happiest seaside towns in America. Even the Wall Street Journal has touted it as the perfect place for a long weekend.
BOCA RATON, FL. First settled in 1895, this southernmost city in Palm Beach County was shaped by the Florida land boom of the 1920s. It owes its charming Spanish and Mediterranean Revival style to resort builder Addison Mizner, for whom several parts of the city are named – most notably Mizner Park, the revitalized Downtown district that has become a cultural center for the whole of Palm Beach County. Shops, restaurants and the Boca Raton Museum of Art are all located in this town center, but advertising is remarkably absent on the thoroughfares: due to a strict development code, no large signs or advertisements are permitted in city limits.
Affluent and educated, Boca Raton’s residents enjoy many outdoor activities including the Atlantic beaches, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens and several championship golf courses (most notably the Jack Nicklaus Signature course at the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club). For those looking to raise a family in Boca Raton, top-notch schools abound; several A-rated public schools and many prestigious private academies are available including the Boca Raton campus of the Pine Crest School.
