Details &
Description

One of Redding’s most significant properties, the 1768 Able Morehouse was built nearly 250 years ago in this small, picturesque town in the heart of Fairfield County. In 1902, Noble Foster Hoggson (a prominent New York architect) redesigned the house in his version of the Colonial Revival Style. The home’s most recent renovation occurred in 2006, by its current owners.

The main residence offers 6 beds, 5 full and 2 half baths, with more than 6,300 sf of living area. A blend of old and new makes the home unique as compared to much of today’s “cookie-cutter” construction. Large and open rooms, wide-plank hardwood floors, charming bedrooms, central heating and cooling, six fireplaces and a spacious kitchen with butler’s pantry combine to provide the convenience of the contemporary era set within the warmth and character of an historical home.

Property grounds include 24 acres of beautiful lawns and gardens (some of latter were designed by Foster Hoggson himself). Features like a reflecting pond and grapevine-covered arbors create a special place of peace and serenity that seems to exist far beyond the 90-minute commute to New York City. Of the 24 acres that comprise the Property, 10 are protected under conservation, further ensuring the Property’s tranquility.

Newer additions to the estate include a heated pool accompanied by a pool house with covered, outdoor dining area, in addition to an 8,000-sf, two-story barn with radiant heat. The barn was built to residential standards in order to house an automotive collection, but is easily convertible to a luxurious equestrian facility.
