The Property

PREVIOUSLY OFFERED FOR $4.75 MILLION. NOW SELLING AT OR ABOVE ONLY $2.075 MILLION!  Sited on 10 lush acres in the upscale borough of Far Hills, NJ, this elegant Property offers 5 bedrooms, 6 full and 3 half baths in +/- 14,000 sf.  The brick residence, though constructed in 1995, was built in the modern style of architecture. It offers an open, three-story floor plan with an incredible array of windows, which use the surrounding landscape to enhance the features of the home.

Indoors, the Property is warmed by exposed brick and extensive woodwork featuring teak, cherry, mahogany and rosewood. Many rooms offer French door access to bluestone balconies and terraces – in addition to the walls of windows – to further bring the outdoors in. Indeed, an impressive lower-level atrium adjacent to the indoor lap pool has two mature trees growing right inside.

Anchored by the atrium and the indoor pool, the lower level is outfitted for family entertainment. A full kitchen, fitness center, sauna, wine cellar, media room, den and music room provide plenty of space to gather and play, while offering separate spaces for kids of all ages to enjoy their favorite activities. There is also a beautiful, freestanding fireplace with a glass surround adjacent to the pool to warm the room on chilly nights.

The main level offers more space to entertain, with a large chef’s kitchen, formal dining, sitting /living room, and a charming sunroom that offers lovely views of the Property’s acreage. A bedroom with en-suite bath (ideal for an au pair or full-time housekeeper), handsome office, and several patios and balconies complete the main level.

Hills_VidComingSoon

The balance of the bedrooms are upstairs, and each well-proportioned room offers ample closet space and an en-suite bath. The master wing has a spacious bath and private balcony, as well as two distinct rooms that can be used as dual sleeping quarters or a master bedroom and sitting room. A walk-in closet/dressing room adjoins the bath, and boasts walls of built-in cabinets made of warm woods.

The Community

FAR HILLS, NJ.  With a population of fewer than one thousand people, the borough of Far Hills New Jersey is the very definition of a small town. However, its residents boast accomplishments that few suburban communities can claim: from Nicholas F. Brady (former US Secretary of the Treasury) to the Forbes family, Far Hills boasts a bevy of educated and accomplished denizens that also include musicians, race car drivers, and former Governors and Senators.

Encompassing nearly 5 square miles of Somerset County, Far Hills is surrounded by equally exclusive communities including Bedminster Township, Bernards Township, and Bernardsville. Indeed, Far Hills shares a community pool, athletic programs, and an award-winning school system with Bernardsville, and a library, fire department and first aid squad with Bedminster Township.

Far Hills was created when Evander Schley, a land developer and real estate broker from New York, purchased thousands of acres in what was then Bernardsville in the 1880s. His brother Grant and sister in law Elizabeth came by horse-drawn carriage to see Schley’s farms, and Elizabeth was so taken by the beauty of the “Far Hills” in the distance as they approached that the moniker stuck, giving the village a name before any structures were built.

That beauty is maintained today by 10-acre minimum zoning laws, and stately homes on large parcels of land surround a quaint downtown. A majority of residents commute to Manhattan for work, but with up to 42 daily trains to and from Port Authority there’s no need to sit in traffic.

Shopping and dining options in Far Hills are varied, and include gourmet sandwiches at The Butler’s Pantry Trackside and deli-style fare at M&M Perrotti’s, or residents can make the short drive to Natirar (an incredible county park that includes an exclusive hotel, spa and restaurant complex) and dine at Ninety Acres, a farm-to-table restaurant celebrating local cuisine.

Despite these options, Far Hill’s primary appeal remains its natural beauty. Outdoor activities aren’t limited to hiking or biking – in fact, one of New Jersey’s premiere social events is centered on the Far Hills Race Meeting’s Grand National steeplechase. The most prestigious race in American Steeplechasing, the Grand National attracts as many as 75,000 people annually. Race day purchases can equal one million dollars – or more! – and the organization has given more than $18 million to local healthcare organizations.

THE LOCATION

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ.  Located in central New Jersey just one hour from Manhattan, Somerset County is the 13th-most populous of the state’s 21 counties, and the second-most affluent. Indeed, Somerset is the 7th wealthiest county in the United States by median household income, and its residents are also among New Jersey’s healthiest, ranked 3rd out of 21 counties. The county’s numerous parks and recreational opportunities certainly contribute to that ranking, and hiking, biking, jogging, horseback riding and boating in the area’s 14,500 acres of open space are widely enjoyed.

The second-largest public facility in the county park system, Lord Stirling Park, covers 990 acres in Bernards Township and is designated solely for environmental and equestrian activities – all levels of horseback riding lessons are offered, and trails are available whether you choose to rent a horse or ride your own.

Another popular way to enjoy the great outdoors is golf, and Somerset County offers five public courses with online tee time booking at very reasonable rates as well as an acclaimed Junior Golf program that has produced several PGA professionals.

Neshanic Valley, the newest facility of the five, has been ranked by Golfweek as one of the top 50 municipal courses in the United States and is consistently ranked among the best in New Jersey. Should a more exclusive experience be desired, the Trump National Golf Club at Bedminster is just 15 minutes from Far Hills in the heart of Somerset County.

Although Somerset County is close to major corporations headquartered in New York City, many international businesses are choosing to move their headquarters to Somerset County to take advantage of the world-class workforce and proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport. Nestle Health Science, Linde Americas, and Daiichi Sankyo are just a few of the industry giants new to the area, with Nestle alone committing $100 million to their offices in the former Sanofi U.S. Research and Development Center in Bridgewater. The well-educated, affluent residents of Somerset County could find their commute to work dramatically reduced with excellent jobs at these global corporations available so close to home.
