HOPEWELL, NJ. Located in western Mercer County, Hopewell is one of central New Jersey’s most desirable small-town communities, known for its preserved rural character, historic architecture, and convenient access to both Princeton and the Delaware River towns. The borough is surrounded by Hopewell Township and forms part of the larger Hopewell Valley, a region characterized by rolling farmland, wooded landscapes, and protected open space. Despite its peaceful setting, Hopewell sits within easy commuting distance of Princeton, Trenton, New York City, and Philadelphia, making it an attractive destination for those seeking a quieter lifestyle without sacrificing accessibility.

Hopewell’s roots date to the late 17th century, with permanent settlement beginning around 1696. Much of the borough developed along what became Broad Street, a colonial King’s Road connecting communities throughout the region. Today, the downtown retains much of its historic character, featuring well-preserved 18th- and 19th-century homes, locally owned shops, restaurants, and galleries that reflect the community’s longstanding emphasis on preservation. The borough’s location near the Sourland Mountain region also provides residents with immediate access to extensive hiking trails, nature preserves, and scenic countryside, contributing to its reputation as one of New Jersey’s premier destinations for outdoor recreation and rural living.

Hopewell and the surrounding valley are also closely tied to New Jersey’s Revolutionary War heritage. Nearby Washington Crossing State Park commemorates General George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River in December 1776, while the broader region contains numerous historic homes, preserved farms, and landmarks dating to the colonial era. Combined with its highly regarded schools, protected landscapes, and proximity to Princeton’s cultural and educational amenities, Hopewell offers a distinctive blend of historic charm, natural beauty, and modern convenience.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ. An appealing mix of past and present, the charming towns that make up Mercer County form a diverse “mini-metropolis” in the heart of the Northeast corridor. Balancing the influx of new residents with a desire to preserve history and open spaces, the municipalities of Mercer each attract for a different reason – be it their rural nature or modern amenities – but they combine to create a location ideal for both business and families. Highly accessible from major cities just outside their borders, the communities of Mercer county are just 20 minutes from Trenton and 45 minutes from Philadelphia.

Residents need not leave Mercer County for recreation or cultural events, however; Princeton, NJ (home of the eponymous university) offers wonderful hiking trails, a Tony Award-winning performing arts venue, and restaurants including the Yankee Doodle Tap Room. A local institution, the Tap Room serves as the dining room of the Nassau Inn, which has hosted Paul Revere and Thomas Paine over its 250-year history. Additional sites celebrating the area’s rich Revolutionary War history include the Morven Museum and Garden (home to one of the signors of the Declaration of Independence) and Princeton Battlefield State Park.
