Details &
Description

The Park at Windom Ranch offers a rare combination of privacy, scale, and mountain scenery within one of southwest Colorado’s most exclusive conservation communities. Set on approximately 12 acres at the end of a private road, the estate overlooks Electra Lake and the iconic Needles peaks of the San Juan Mountains. Located within Windom Ranch, a gated enclave just north of Durango, the property enjoys a secluded setting while remaining close to year-round recreation, golf, skiing, and regional air service. The residence spans approximately 10,700 sf and is designed to accommodate both quiet retreats and larger gatherings. The main home includes four bedrooms with en-suite baths, three half baths, multiple living areas, a dedicated office, theater room, gourmet kitchen, butler’s pantry, and six fireplaces. Cathedral ceilings, substantial stonework, Douglas fir beams, cedar ceilings, and expansive windows frame views of Electra Lake and the surrounding San Juan Mountains throughout the home. A comprehensive Savant smart-home system manages lighting, climate, security, entertainment, and other household functions, while radiant in-floor heating and central air conditioning support year-round comfort.

The kitchen serves as a natural focal point of the home, featuring professional-grade Viking, Sub-Zero, Bosch, and Thermador appliances, custom cabinetry, and a large center island. Nearby dining and sitting areas are oriented toward the property’s mountain and lake views, with walls of glass that bring the surrounding landscape into the interior spaces. The primary suite occupies a private wing of the main level and includes its own fireplace, deck access, a spacious walk-in closet, and a bath with a steam shower, soaking tub, heated towel bars, and separate vanities. Additional amenities include a lower level with a game room, a custom bar, guest suites, and direct access to outdoor patios overlooking the property. Fine finishes such as hand-scraped hickory flooring, travertine, slate, custom ironwork, and Telluride stone contribute to the home’s mountain character while maintaining a warm and comfortable atmosphere.

Outside, multiple levels of decks and patios overlook the surrounding landscape, while a wood-burning fireplace, built-in barbecue, hot tub, and outdoor seating areas extend the home’s living space into every season. Complementing the main residence is a separate 2,200-sf guest house with three bedrooms, three baths, a full kitchen, laundry facilities, and independent mechanical systems. A recently completed barn adds further flexibility to the property. Originally designed to showcase an automobile collection, the heated and plumbed structure features timber construction, high ceilings, a fireplace, and a full bath, making it suitable for a variety of recreational, event, or storage uses. Mature aspen groves, evergreen trees, irrigated grounds, and custom lighting enhance both the property’s appearance and functionality. Additional features include a porte cochere, heated garage spaces, an RV garage, snowmelt systems, security cameras, and ample storage.

Windom Ranch is a small conservation-oriented community located along the scenic US Highway 550 corridor between Durango and Silverton. Residents enjoy easy access to outdoor recreation, with skiing at Purgatory Resort just minutes away and golf available at nearby Glacier Club and Dalton Ranch Golf Club. Hiking, mountain biking, fly-fishing, boating, horseback riding, and snowmobiling opportunities are abundant throughout the surrounding San Juan Mountains. Wildlife sightings are common, including mule deer, elk, wild turkey, foxes, and a variety of raptors. Durango, approximately 25 miles south of the property, offers the conveniences of a regional hub while retaining its historic mountain-town character. Nearby attractions include the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Mesa Verde National Park, and the Four Corners region. Combined with more than 300 days of annual sunshine and four distinct seasons, the area continues to attract residents seeking both outdoor recreation and a high quality of life.

DURANGO, CO. Located in the southwest corner of Colorado, Durango has a rich history as a frontier mining town. Organized in 1880 to serve the San Juan mining district, the city was named by former Colorado governor Alexander Hunt after a city in Mexico he admired on a scouting trip for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. Today, Durango is known for its myriad outdoor recreational activities and incredible scenic beauty. Mountain bikers, rafters, kayakers, horseback riders, rock climbers, hikers, campers, hunters and fishermen are drawn to the two-million-acre San Juan National Forest and to the San Juan mountains, the largest range in the Rockies. Access to many trailheads can be found within minutes of Durango, including Missionary Ridge and the mountainous Weminuche wilderness area (the largest wilderness in the state of Colorado). There is no shortage of outdoor activities, and with 300 annual days of sunshine, even the most avid outdoorspeople will be fulfilled.

Local lore states that there are more restaurants in Durango, per capita, than San Francisco – and there are certainly a plentitude of options from breweries to fine dining. There is also plenty of live entertainment, from concerts at the Fort Lewis Concert Hall to Music in the Mountains,  an exceptional classical music festival that occurs each summer. With over 500 stores in the Durango area, from chic boutiques to galleries, there is plenty to discover in the local shopping scene. Easy access to skiing can be found at Purgatory, a Durango Mountain Resort, in winter, and hiking, fishing, rafting and horseback riding in warmer months. The Glacier Club is also nearby, and the exceptional private club and community showcases two 18-hole golf courses. The courses (the Mountain Course, designed by Todd Shoeder and Hale Irwin, and the Valley Course, designed by Arthur Hills) are challenging, and the amenities and clubhouse are top-notch. Equity memberships are available.

FOUR CORNERS REGION. A region in the southwestern United States that consists of the southwestern corner of Colorado, southeastern corner of Utah, northeastern corner of Arizona and the northwestern corner of New Mexico, the Four Corners is named after the quadripoint where the boundaries of the four states meet. Most of the Four Corners region belongs to Native America nations, with tribes including the Navajo Nation, as well as the Hopi, Ute, and Zuni tribal reserves. Lightly populated, the region’s largest cities are Farmington, New Mexico and Durango, Colorado. Acquired from Mexico in 1834 after the end of the Mexican-American War, the region is part of the Colorado Plateau – a region that regulates weather patterns throughout the entire central United States.

In addition to the monument marking the spot where the four states meet, the region is famed for its archaeological sites, remote landscapes, and scenic hikes and drives that showcase the incredible national parks in the area. Mesa National Park, Ute Mountain Tribal Park, the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, and the Hovenweep National Monument are just a few of the sites whose sweeping views of the mountains and forests inspire travelers and residents alike. In addition to the parks in the immediate area, Four Corners is also near the Grand Circle, an area in the southwest that offers the largest concentration of national parks and monuments in the entire country.
